Specimen

A specimen should be collected from the trachea or cloacal secretions of the birds using a cotton swab provided in a sterile blister pack. For an accurate test outcome, the swab should be sufficiently saturated.

The cotton swab has to be placed in a buffer dilution immediately after the sample has been collected. To continue with the test, it is necessary to administer the drops of buffer dilution onto a specific area of the test cassette.

Form

The Cassette comprises a plastic case with the test strip inside. Within the cassette, there is a designated space for sample placement and a viewing window to display the test lines as positive, negative, or invalid results.

The test strip contains specific reagents designed to detect the presence of the avian influenza virus (AIV) in the sample.

How is an Avian Influenza Test Kit used?

Use the cotton swab to collect a sample (trachea or cloacal secretion) and place the sample in the buffer. Tracheal samples should be obtained from the area behind the bird's tongue, and cloacal samples should try to avoid any feces or blood, as these may interfere with the results of the test.

If possible, the specimen should be tested immediately after collection. If immediate testing is not available, keep the specimen refrigerated (2-8°C) for up to 48 hours.
