What is Penicillin G Procaine + Dihydrostreptomycin Sulfate?

Therapeutic Class:
Target Species:

Active Ingredients: Penicillin G Procaine, Dihydrostreptomycin Sulfate

Penicillin G Procaine + Dihydrostreptomycin Suspension for Injection is used to treat bacterial infections in horses, cats, dogs, and livestock animals such as camels, goats, sheep, cows and pigs. It's indicated for respiratory infections, mastitis in swine, and otitis externa. This antibiotic is not effective against penicillinase-producing bacteria.

Procaine penicillin is the combination of the antibiotic benzyl penicillin and the local anesthetic agent procaine. Penicillin works by inhibiting cell wall formation. Procaine has been added to reduce the pain caused by the injection. Procaine penicillin is also known by the names procaine benzyl penicillin and procaine G penicillin.

Dihydrostreptomycin is a streptomycin derivate. It belongs to the family of medicines called aminoglycoside antibiotics. This drug works by stopping the production of essential proteins that are needed by the bacteria to survive. It shows bactericidal activity against many types of bacteria.

It is important to note that this formulation of penicillin G procaine + dihydrostreptomycin is for veterinary purposes only. While AdvaCare Pharma offers many similar products that are available for human use, this particular medication should be prescribed by a veterinary doctor or animal care specialist for an animal.
