What is Fluralaner?
Active Ingredients: Fluralaner
Fluralaner Chewable Tablets, manufactured and globally distributed under the brand TickZero™, represent a new era in antiparasitic care for dogs. Instead of relying on external solutions like collars or shampoos, this oral flea treatment for dogs protects canines internally against adult fleas and ticks.
Fluralaner belongs to the isoxazoline class of antiparasitic medicine. It targets fleas and ticks by inhibiting GABA and chloride channels, causing paralysis and ultimately death of these pests. With its low systemic residence and long half-life, Fluralaner offers long-acting tick & flea protection for dogs, delivering 12 weeks of efficacy from a single dose of TickZero. This makes it a strong alternative for veterinarians, pet owners, and distributors seeking a reliable Fluralaner manufacturer offering long-lasting protection similar to the well-known brand Bravecto™ manufacturered by MSD Animal Health (a division of Merck Animal Health).
TickZero has a broad activity spectrum. It is effective against adult fleas of the Ctenocephalides family and major tick species, including Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus, and Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Its mechanism also helps reduce the risk of Babesia canis infection, supporting comprehensive dog tick prevention with Fluralaner.
Fluralaner oral tablets are available in four weight-based strengths—112.5 mg, 250 mg, 500 mg, and 1000 mg—to match the dosing needs of various dog breeds. The Fluralaner chewable pill format improves owner compliance, offering an easier administration method compared to topical alternatives. Since the product is taken orally, its effectiveness is not reduced by bathing or water exposure, making it an ideal choice for active canines. Fluralaner is widely accepted by pet owners as the best flea treatment for dogs, while veterinarians and distributors consider it a safe dog flea and tick chew solution for their veterinary portfolio.

Uses
What are Fluralaner Tablets used for?
TickZero™ (Fluralaner chewable tablets for dogs) is used for:
- protection and treatment against ticks and fleas
- managing flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) in dogs
- prevention of tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease, Babesia, and Ehrlichiosis
- treatment of demodicosis and sarcoptic mange
As a long-acting Fluralaner dog antiparasitic, it supports effective, sustained parasite control.
How are Fluralaner Tablets used?
A Fluralaner chewable pill is given to the dog after a meal. The active ingredient is absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed systemically. When fleas or ticks feed on the dog, Fluralaner blocks their GABA and chloride channels, causing paralysis and death. This ensures long-acting tick & flea protection dogs can rely on.
Which parasites does Fluralaner cover?
TickZero (Fluralaner oral tablets) targets:
- adult fleas (Ctenocephalides canis)
- ticks such as Ixodes ricinus, Dermacentor reticulatus, and Rhipicephalus sanguineus
By reducing infestations with Dermacentor reticulatus, the product also helps lower the risk of Babesia canis infection. Additionally, it is effective in the treatment of demodicosis (Demodex canis) and sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis). These broad-spectrum effects support its reputation as one of the best dog tick pills for 3 months.
How soon can dog owners expect to see results?
- Fluralaner begins killing fleas as early as 2 hours after administration.
- Most fleas are eliminated within 8 hours.
- Tick activity is suppressed within approximately 12 hours.
The rapid onset makes it a fast-acting flea treatment for dogs while still providing long-lasting protection for up to 12 weeks.
How does Fluralaner work?
This treatment for dogs works by blocking GABA-gated and glutamate-gated chloride channels in fleas and ticks. This disrupts the parasites’ nervous system, causing paralysis and death. Because this mechanism is highly selective for insects and acarines, it is considered a safe dog flea and tick chew when used as directed.
Can Fluralaner be given with other medications?
TickZero (Fluralaner tablets) can generally be used alongside common veterinary products such as vaccines, anthelmintics, and routine preventatives. However, dogs receiving long-term therapy or those with chronic conditions should be evaluated by a veterinarian before combining medications. This ensures safe and effective use of any fluralaner dog medicine.
What should an owner do in case of a missed dose?
Administer the tablet as soon as it is remembered to maintain continuous protection. Then resume the regular 12-week schedule. Consistency is important for reliable dog tick prevention with Fluralaner.
Can Fluralaner be given to puppies?
Yes, TickZero is approved for puppies over 8 weeks of age and weighing more than 2 kg (4.4 lbs). When administered correctly, Fluralaner tablets for dogs are well-tolerated and provide effective early tick and flea control.
Does Fluralaner help with flea allergy dermatitis (FAD)?
Yes, by killing adult fleas and preventing reinfestation, TickZero reduces the clinical signs associated with flea allergy dermatitis. Continuous use supports long-term management of FAD.
How should Fluralaner Tablets be stored?
Store TickZero in its original blister packaging, in a cool and dry place, below 25°C (77°F), and away from moisture and direct sunlight. Proper storage preserves the stability and effectiveness of Fluralaner chewable tablets.
Dosage
How many Fluralaner Tablets should be given?
TickZero™ is a Fluralaner chewable pill intended for oral use and must be administered according to the dog’s bodyweight. As a dog weight-based tick treatment, it is available in four strengths to simplify accurate dosing across different breeds and sizes.
The recommended dosing for Fluralaner Chewable Tablets for dogs is:
- 112.5mg for dogs 2–4.5 kg (4.4–8.8 lbs)
- 250mg for dogs 4.5–10 kg (8.8–22 lbs)
- 500mg for dogs 10–20 kg (22–44 lbs)
- 1000mg for dogs 20–40 kg (44–88 lbs)
For dogs weighing over 40 kg (88 lbs), use a combination of Fluralaner oral tablets that corresponds to the dog’s weight (e.g., three 500mg tablets for a dog weighing 50kg / 110lbs). Correct dosing is essential to ensure long-acting tick & flea protection for dogs and maintain the proven efficacy of this Fluralaner dog antiparasitic.

FAQs
How does TickZero work against fleas and ticks?
TickZero™ contains Fluralaner, a highly effective dog antiparasitic. Once administered in the form of a Fluralaner chewable pill, the active ingredient is absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed systemically. Fleas and ticks that feed on the dog ingest Fluralaner, which blocks their GABA and chloride channels, leading to paralysis and death. This mechanism ensures fast-acting flea treatment for dogs and supports long-acting tick & flea protection dogs need.
How long does TickZero offer protection against fleas and ticks?
A single dose of a Fluralaner Tablet provides up to 12 weeks of protection against fleas and approximately 8–12 weeks for ticks. Environmental factors, local parasite prevalence, and tick or flea species can slightly affect protection duration. This makes TickZero one of the best dog tick pills and a reliable oral flea treatment lasting for a duration of 3 months of protection.
Are there any restrictions for TickZero?
TickZero should not be used in puppies under 8 weeks of age or weighing less than 2kg (4.4lbs). Dogs with chronic illnesses or those on long-term medications may require dose adjustments, which should only be determined by a veterinarian. Dogs with a history of neurological disorders (e.g., epilepsy) should be monitored closely due to rare neurological side effects.
What should an owner do if the dog vomits shortly after taking TickZero?
If a dog vomits within 3 hours of administration, it is recommended to give another Fluralaner chewable tablet for dogs to ensure proper absorption. Persistent vomiting should prompt consultation with a veterinarian to ensure effective parasite control.
Can TickZero be combined with other parasite-control treatments or medications?
Yes, TickZero can be co-administered with common veterinary treatments such as vaccines, anthelmintics, or heartworm preventatives. However, because Fluralaner binds to plasma proteins, consult a veterinarian if the dog is receiving medications like NSAIDs or warfarin, to ensure safety and optimal efficacy of the fluralaner dog medicine.
What should the owner do if they miss a dose of TickZero?
Administer the missed dose as soon as possible. Continue with the regular 12-week schedule. Thanks to its Fluralaner long-lasting protection, short delays do not significantly reduce effectiveness, but maintaining the schedule ensures continuous dog tick prevention with Fluralaner.
Does bathing or swimming reduce the effect of TickZero?
No, as an oral flea treatment for dogs, TickZero works systemically through the bloodstream, not on the skin. Bathing or swimming does not diminish its effectiveness, making it ideal for active dogs or those regularly groomed.

What is evidence that Fluralaner is better in protecting dogs against fleas compared to traditional antiparasitic treatments?
There are many studies that aim to prove which type of treatment offers the best results in both flea and tick protection. Systemic oral drugs against fleas and ticks are a new novelty medication, but it is common for some to have doubts about their effectiveness when compared to traditional treatments. To clear these doubts, there are many large-scale studies assessing the effectiveness of Fluralaner.
A randomized, blinded, controlled USA field study to assess the use of Fluralaner Tablets in controlling canine flea infestations
One study done by Merck Animal Health, conducted in 2014, aimed to evaluate how well oral tablets with the ingredient Fluralaner work in controlling flea and tick infestations. Another objective of this study was to compare whether a single dose of Fluralaner works better than three doses of topical treatments, an oral ampicillin, and a tick collar.
In this study, there were 157 households, with 294 dogs. They were divided into two groups by a 3:1 randomized ratio. 224 dogs (118 households) were in the Fluralaner group, while 70 dogs (39 households) were in the control group. Dogs in the Fluralaner group received one chewable Fluralaner and were monitored during the 12-week active protection timeline. The other group received the three treatments during a 4-week interval.
The results were as follows: The Fluralaner group had a reduction of 99.7-99.8% during weeks 4,8, and 12, while the control group had a reduction of 99.6% during week 1, 99% during weeks 8 and 12. In terms of dog safety and tolerance, the chewable tablets were accepted voluntarily from the dogs over 90% of the time.
This study proves that Fluralaner has the same efficacy as traditional antiparasitic treatments, but has a longer protection time, and it is easier to administer to the dog.
What is the evidence of Fluralaner being effective against ticks, and how fast does it kill them?
Fluralaner does not only works on fleas, but also on ticks. Compared to fleas, it takes Fluralaner a longer onset to begin getting rid of ticks, but that does not mean that it isn’t effective as a tick repellent.
The speed of kill of Fluralaner (Bravecto™) against Ixodes ricinus ticks on dogs
A study done by Christina Wengenmayer in the MSD Animal Health Innovation in Germany aimed to show how quickly and reliably Fluralaner is in killing adult female ticks of the Ixodes ricinus family after a single oral dose.
In this study, a total of 48 dogs from the breed Beagle were randomized into 8 groups. Each group contained 6 dogs. Four groups received treatment on day one, while the others were used as untreated controls. All of them were infested with 50 female and one male tick two days before treatment, and then reinfested at weeks 4,8, and 12. The number of ticks was assessed and grouped as live or dead at various time stamps during the study.
After the initial treatment, the efficacy of Fluralaner in killing ticks was 89.6%, while in 4 hours it was 97.9%. It reached 100% at the 12 and 24-hour post-treatment mark. After reinfestation, the efficacy of flyralanel was 96.8% at week 4, 83% at week 8, and 45.8% at week 12. But when measured at the 12 and 24 hours post-re-infestation, it was still effective 98% during the 12 weeks.
This study proves that Fluralaner leads to rapid kill of ticks when it begins to exert its effect, making it harder for ticks to transmit certain pathogens during their blood meals. That means that Fluralaner is both faster, more potent in killing ticks and preventing the spread of tick-borne disease.
What are the most common animals for which Fluralaner Tablets are used?
Fluralaner Tablets were specifically formulated and are increasingly preferred as an effective oral flea treatment for dogs. As an effective and preferred alternative to collars, shampoos, spot-ons, and other topical solutions, Fluralaner Chewable Tablets for dogs offer convenient, long-acting control of ticks and fleas.
These Fluralaner oral tablets are often recommended for:
- working dogs, especially those frequently exposed to water or outdoor environments, where topical treatments can wash off or lose effectiveness
- companion dogs owned by elderly individuals, as administering a Fluralaner chewable pill is often easier than applying ampoules or shampoos
- dogs with a history of FAD (flea allergy dermatitis) or previous tick-borne diseases, where reliable, long-acting tick & flea protection for dogs is essential
- dogs that have shown hypersensitivity to topical treatments, making an oral fluralaner dog antiparasitic a safer and more comfortable option
Fluralaner is increasingly recognized as one of the best flea treatments for dogs in regions seeking a dependable, easy-to-administer alternative to traditional methods.
