What is Fortified Penicillin Procaine?
Active Ingredients: Penicillin G Procaine, Penicillin Sodium
Fortified Penicillin G Procaine + Penicillin Sodium for Injection is a combination antibiotic used for moderately severe bacterial infections caused by penicillin-susceptible microorganisms. It is indicated for the treatment of skin infections (erysipelas, foot rot, wound infections) and respiratory tract infections like shipping fever in camels, goats, cows, pigs and horses.
Both of these antibiotics belong to the family of medicines called penicillin antibiotics. They work as a bactericide through multiple mechanisms of action, including interfering with cell wall synthesis. It is an effective treatment for infections caused by bacteria such as Pasteurella multocida, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, and Streptococcus equi.
Fortified penicillin G procaine is a combination of natural penicillin G (penicillin G sodium) and procaine hydrochloride, a local anesthetic that is added to reduce the pain caused by intramuscular administration.
Penicillin sodium is also known by the names benzylpenicillin sodium and penicillin G sodium.
