Targeted Health Support
Benefits
Vitamin A benefits the eye health
This supplement is essential for good vision and eye health. It can protect people from certain eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration. High levels of beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin can reduce the risk of this disease. Carotenoid nutrients from this supplement can lead to better eye health.
This vitamin is mostly known for benefits in cases of night blindness. Night blindness is a condition characterized by difficulty seeing in low-light conditions and darkness. The benefits are due to the production of rhodopsin which is a pigment from the retina of the eye that helps with vision in low-light environments. This condition needs to be prevented in developing countries due to the many cases of malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency.
Vitamin A benefits pregnant women and children
Pregnant women and children from developing countries are at increased risk of night blindness because they face malnutrition and vitamin A deficiency. This vitamin, combined with other supplements and foods that contain vitamin A, can significantly improve the condition of night blindness.
Vitamin A benefits in cases of cancer
This supplement has antioxidant properties and can protect people from certain types of cancer. Retinoids like vitamin A can inhibit the growth of certain cancer cells in the bladder, breast, and ovaries.
Vitamin A benefits the immune system
With the antioxidant properties, this vitamin can boost the immune system especially in cases of inflammation. It is also included in the creation of certain cells like the B cells and T cells which play central roles in the immune response. It can also protect the body from free radicals and prevent oxidative stress.
Vitamin A benefits the neurological system
Regular vitamin A consumption can lead to better cognition, memory, learning, and attention. This supplement, combined with certain foods that contain vitamin A, can achieve this.
Vitamin A benefits the skin health
This supplement can be used as a treatment for acne, dry, scaly, and itchy skin. It can also prevent the occurrence of measles, especially in developing countries. Vitamin A can be used to treat symptoms and complications of measles. Vaccination is the primary preventative measure for measles.
Ingredients
Vitamin A is an antioxidant nutrient that helps keep the skin, eyes, and immune system healthy. It is found in brightly colored fruits and vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, spinach, and cantaloupe. Studies suggest that it can help with vision health by maintaining the function of rods and cones within the eye.
Vitamin A plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system by supporting the production and function of immune cells. It is also involved in the growth and development of bones, teeth, and soft tissues, making it essential for maintaining overall physical health. Vitamin A deficiency can lead to a range of health issues, including night blindness, dry skin, and increased susceptibility to infections.

Large doses of vitamin A or smaller doses over a longer period can lead to vitamin A toxicity. The most common symptoms include headache, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, irritability, liver damage, peeling skin, dry eyes, hair loss or oily hair, blurry vision, low appetite, and difficulty walking, accompanied by bone pain. Very severe cases of hypervitaminosis A can even be life-threatening.
Consult with a doctor to determine the dose based on your current health condition. Dosage should be strictly determined in younger children and babies because vitamin A toxicity can easily occur in these patients.
Is only Vitamin A enough to treat night blindness?
It depends on the cause of it. This condition can be caused by cataracts, glaucoma, or laser vision correction surgeries. Other causes might be retinitis pigmentosa and vitamin A deficiency. If the cause of night blindness is vitamin deficiency, then it can be treated only with this supplement. However, professionals often prescribe other drugs and supplements. Patients with this condition should also consume food that contains vitamin A in large quantities.

What is the study for Vitamin A’s impact on the immune system? Professionals recommend vitamin A to boost the immune system in people. There are many studies that confirm this.
Effects of Vitamin A Supplementation on Immune Responses and Correlation with Clinical Outcomes
This vitamin can be used from a young age in children because it is known to decrease the risks of mortality and morbidity, especially in cases of diarrhea, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), measles, and malaria. This is especially important for developing countries where people have increased risks of these diseases.
This study focused on the immunomodulatory mechanism of vitamin A through clinical trials. It is known that a good immune response can be achieved with vitamin A supplementations. This supplement can decrease the chances of morbidity from measles due to enhanced antibody production and lymphocyte proliferation.
Severe cases of diarrhea can also be improved with this vitamin. It is because it can sustain the integrity of the mucosal epithelia in the gut. A positive effect in HIV-infected children is achieved due to an increased T-cell lymphopoiesis. Vitamin A supplementation in young children can also improve the antibody response to some vaccines, including tetanus and diphtheria toxoids and measles.
This research does not conclude that vitamin A supplementation leads to cytokine production and lymphocyte activation. However, the conclusion is that vitamin A supplementation from a young age can decrease the chances of diseases with high morbidity and mortality.
What is the study for Vitamin A’s impact on night blindness?
Vitamin A is essential to improve vision and eye health. It can protect humans from some serious eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration. It is well-known for its positive effect on the condition of night blindness, which means difficulty seeing in low-light conditions and darkness. This condition is also known as nyctalopia, and vitamin A helps in these cases with the production of rhodopsin, which is a pigment from the retina of the eye that improves vision in low-light environments.
Night Blindness During Pregnancy and Subsequent Mortality among Women in Nepal: Effects of Vitamin A and β-Carotene Supplementation
This study focuses on night blindness caused by vitamin A deficiency during pregnancy among women in Nepal. The main aspects were risks of maternal death during and after pregnancy with night blindness. The research lasted 3 years and it included supplementation with vitamin A with cluster-randomized and placebo-controlled groups. It included 877 women with night blindness and 9,545 women without night blindness during pregnancy.
The participants were followed from the time they declared they were pregnant to the end of the study. It included 90 weeks. Compared to women without night blindness from the placebo group, their risk of dying was lower. Among women taking vitamin A supplementation, those with or without night blindness had even lower risks of death. Night-blind women were five times more likely to die from infections.
This research shows that night blindness during pregnancy increases the risk of both short and long-term mortality. However, taking vitamin A supplementation greatly reduces this risk.
