What is Metronidazole?
Active Ingredients: Metronidazole
Metronidazole Oral Suspension is used to treat serious infections caused by anaerobic bacteria or protozoa. This drug is prescribed to treat infections in many parts of the body, like the gastrointestinal tract, bones, joints, and nervous system. It is also used with other medicines to treat H. pylori infection.
Metronidazole is also used as prophylaxis to prevent infection for certain patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
Metronidazole is broad-spectrum nitroimidazole with antibiotic, amebicide, and antiprotozoal properties. Though its exact mechanism of action is unknown, it is known to work by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis. Metronidazole shows activity against gram-negative anaerobic bacteria, gram-positive anaerobic bacteria, and protozoa.
