How should Docetaxel Injection be used?

This medication is manufactured as a powder and stored in a vial. The powder is to be prepared into a solution, and after reconstitution, it should be administered by injection into a vein.

As Docetaxel Injection is a cytotoxic drug, caution should be exercised when preparing and administering the solution. Goggles, gloves, and protective gowns are recommended.

What dose should be given?

Recommended dosage guidelines may vary depending on medical condition:

  • For node-positive breast cancer (adjuvant), the usual dose is 75mg/m² IV, given on day 1 of a 21-day cycle for 6 cycles.
  • For metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, the usual dose is 75mg/m² IV, given on day 1 of a 21-day cycle, given up to 10 cycles. Prednisone is typically prescribed alongside this treatment.

The usual dose for adults depends on the patient's weight and general condition. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.

Side Effects

There is little evidence with regards to the use of Docetaxel during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so consult a doctor or healthcare professional before having injections with Docetaxel Powder.
