What is Calcium Folinate?
Active Ingredients: Calcium Folinate
Calcium Folinate Injection is an adjuvant medication used in cancer chemotherapy. It is typically used to reduce the harmful effects of some antineoplastic medications, such as methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil. This drug is also used to treat megaloblastic anemia that isn't caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.
The active ingredient, Calcium Folinate, belongs to a vitamin B group of medicines. It is a reduced form of folic acid. During cancer chemotherapy, Calcium Folinate allows nucleic acid synthesis to continue despite the presence of a folic acid antagonist during chemotherapy, which helps to counteract the toxic effects of antineoplastic folic acid antagonists.
Calcium Folinate is also called folinic acid, leucovorin, and leucovorin calcium.
