What is Vitamin B Complex?

Active Ingredients: Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B Complex Injection is used to prevent and treat vitamin B deficiencies. Parenteral administration is recommended for patients who are unable to take oral medications, such as before or after surgery, suffering from prolonged illness, or due to the inability to absorb vitamins in the gastrointestinal system.

Vitamin B Complex injection contains thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxine, niacinamide, d-panthenol, and cyanocobalamin. These vitamins are essential for red blood cell formation, energy metabolism, and other bodily functions.

All B vitamins have several roles. Each of them contributes to various biochemical reactions, and their functions are interconnected and mutually supportive. They serve as coenzymes in numerous biochemical reactions. Also, they activate enzyme reactions of corresponding proteins, forming holoenzymes that participate in the majority of cellular processes.

Vitamin B1 and B6 are particularly active in the methionine cycle and citric acid cycle, integral processes in mitochondrial energy production. However, the entire vitamin B group collaborates for their successful execution. Additionally, B vitamins play a vital role in maintaining the health of the nervous system by contributing to the functions of both the central and peripheral nervous systems.

Vitamin B1 (thiamine) functions as a coenzyme with the transketolase enzyme in the pentose phosphate pathway of glycolysis. This pathway generates pentose sugar for amino acid and nucleic acid synthesis, converting glucose to ribulose-5-phosphate via the pentose phosphate shunt. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) plays a crucial role in redox reactions, serving as a precursor for coenzymes flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). Riboflavin is essential for homocysteine metabolism, acting as a cofactor for enzymes like methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and methionine synthase reductase (MTRR).

Vitamin B3 (niacin) is involved in the citric acid cycle, in acetyl-CoA formation, and its coenzyme transitions from NAD+ to NADH. Niacin is a necessary cofactor in the anabolic methionine cycle, supporting enzymes like dihydrofolate reductase. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is a component of coenzyme A, crucial for numerous metabolic pathways and the proper functioning of the citric acid cycle.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) serves as a necessary cofactor in the folate cycle, playing a role in neurotransmitter synthesis, such as dopamine, serotonin, GABA, noradrenaline, and melatonin. B6 is vital for immune functions and serves as a biomarker of inflammation, with its down-regulation associated with severe inflammation. Even a minor deficiency of B6 can lead to a significant reduction in neurotransmitter levels.

Each vitamin has a crucial role in some part of the human’s metabolism, and it should be administered with guidance from a professional.

Vitamin B Complex is also found in the forms of supplements, syrup, tablets, and capsules.

Why is Vitamin B Complex Injection used?

Vitamin B can enhance the energy in humans. It can boost energy levels and lead to a supporting proper metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. It converts them into usable energy. It can also improve the mood and mental health of humans and plays a vital role in maintaining neurotransmitter synthesis. It promotes a balanced mood, reduces stress, and leads to optimal brain function. Vitamin B also leads to healthy hair, skin, and nails. It promotes their growth, overall appearance, and strength.

This complex of vitamins can lead to normal cardiovascular health and regulation of homocysteine levels. It can reduce the risk of cardiovascular issues like heart disease and strokes in humans. It can improve the cognitive health and memory in humans, and it also improves the focus and overall brain function. It can lead to a better functioning metabolism, aids in weight management, and promotes nutrient utilization.

Vitamin B increases nutrient absorption and maximizes their bioavailability for the whole body's benefit. It leads to better-functioning blood cells. It can help in keeping the immune system healthy and aids when there is a present infection or some disease.

Is only Vitamin B Complex enough to treat a certain disease?

It depends on the health issue. In mild cases of Vitamin B deficiencies, this medication can significantly improve the patient’s health status. When there is an inflammation, other drugs need to be added. If the patient has a bacterial infection, antibiotics should be added. The bacteria must be susceptible to the antibiotic for a full recovery. If the patient suffers from a viral or fungal disease, antiviral or antifungal drugs need to be added. This injection is mostly recommended for patients who are unable to take oral medications, such as before or after surgery. It is also suitable for patients who are suffering from prolonged illness or due to the inability to absorb vitamins in the gastrointestinal system.

Can Vitamin B Complex be used as a treatment for COVID-19?

Vitamin B Complex can improve the immune system of all patients. During the pandemic, many vitamins were recommended, including supplements containing vitamin B. The treatment process for COVID-19 is very complex and not determined well yet. However, some doctors prescribe vitamin B complex injections or other supplements containing vitamin B to improve the overall health of the patients. These injections should be administered only if the doctor prescribes them.

Can Vitamin B Complex be administered in older patients?

Vitamin B Complex Injections can be administered in older patients also but caution is needed. A skin sensitivity test is recommended before the administration. Older patients (60+) with arteriosclerosis have a possibility of circulatory collapse after administration. If any side effects occur, the treatment should be stopped immediately.

Vitamin B Complex Treatment Attenuates Local Inflammation after Peripheral Nerve Injury

Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) triggers different cellular and molecular events crucial for axon regeneration and tissue reinnervation and inflammation is one of these processes. Macrophage activation is central to PNI pathogenesis, transitioning from a proinflammatory (M1) to an anti-inflammatory (M2) phenotype with distinct functions in inflammation and repair.

This study aimed to assess the impact of vitamin B complex (including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12) on neuroinflammation, partly regulated by l-type Caᵥ1.2 calcium channels. This study was performed by using a controlled transection of the motor branch of the femoral peripheral nerve in an experimental model. These animals received vitamin B complex injections over various intervals before sacrifice. Isolated nerves were subjected to immunofluorescence analysis.

The results showed that vitamin B complex treatment reduced proinflammatory cytokine expression while increasing anti-inflammatory cytokine expression, and this led to neuroinflammation resolution. B vitamins decreased the number of M1 macrophages expressing the Caᵥ1.2 channel and increased the number of M2 macrophages expressing the same channel, suggesting a role in M1/M2 transition post-PNI.

The conclusion is that B vitamins can be used in treating neuroinflammation and promoting neuroregeneration, potentially serving as an effective therapy for PNI in humans.
