What is Venlafaxine?
Active Ingredients: Venlafaxine
Venlafaxine Extended Release Capsules are an SNRI antidepressant drug used to treat mood/mental disorders like major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. This extended-release formula is designed to stay in a patient's system for 24 hours.
Venlafaxine is classified as a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) antidepressant. It works by balancing certain chemicals in the brain.

Uses
What is Venlafaxine used for?
It is used to treat mood disorders like major depression disorder or anxiety disorder.
How are Venlafaxine Capsules used?
This medication is manufactured to be taken orally. It should be taken with food at the same time each day.
What dose should be taken?
The usual dose is 75-225mg, taken once per day. The starting dose is usually 37.5-75mg and may be increased by up to 75mg after 4 days. The maximum dosage per day is 225mg.
Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for more specific guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Venlafaxine Capsules.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- headache
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- feeling nervous or anxious
- problems with sleep
- tremors
- tachycardia
- blurry vision
- gastrointestinal disturbances
- sexual problems
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- blurry vision or any other changes in vision
- cough or difficulty breathing
- convulsions
- unusual bleeding
- signs of low sodium in the blood
- any severe nervous system reaction (severe headache, loss of coordination, and severe dizziness)

Precautions
Do NOT use Venlafaxine Capsules if:
- You are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
- You are allergic to desvenlafaxine.
- You have uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
- You have been treated with an MAO inhibitor within 14 days or plan on being treated within 7 days.
This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:
- bipolar disorder
- liver or kidney disease
- heart disease
- hypertension or high cholesterol
- diabetes
- glaucoma
- thyroid disorder
- a history of seizures
- any type of sexual problem
- bleeding problems or disorders
- low sodium in the blood
Suicidal thoughts may occur in young patients. It is important to have regular progress updates with a physician and for caregivers and families to pay attention to changes in mood.
This medicine should not be used while pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not abruptly stop taking this medication. Consult a doctor or healthcare professional before stopping or starting this medicine.
Many drugs are known to interact with Venlafaxine, including other antidepressants, opioids, sleeping medicines, muscle relaxers, anxiety or other mood disorder drugs, cimetidine, tramadol, St. John's wort, tryptophan, diet or weight loss pills, blood thinners, and migraine medicines.
It is important to monitor blood pressure while being treated with Venlafaxine. This medicine may cause false positives on drug tests.
Symptoms may not improve for a few weeks after beginning treatment. Do not abruptly stop taking Venlafaxine.
This medication has not been shown to be safe for patients under 18 years old.
