What is Penicillin V used for?
It is used to treat bacterial infections such as:
- streptococcal and pneumococcal upper respiratory infections
- scarlet fever
- erysipelas infections
- staphylococcal skin and soft tissue infections
- fusospirochetosis

How should Penicillin V Tablets be used?
This medication is intended to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
- For streptococcal pharyngitis, the usual dose is 500mg, taken every 12 hours or 250mg, taken every 6 hours. The duration of treatment is 10 days.
- For mild actinomycosis, the usual dose is 2-4g, divided and given every 6 hours. The duration of treatment is 8 weeks.
- For erysipelas, the usual dose is 500mg, taken every 6 hours.
- For periodontal infections, the usual dose is 250-500mg, taken every 6 hours. The duration of treatment is 5-7 days.
- For prophylaxis of rheumatic fever, the usual dose is 250mg, taken every 12 hours.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
