What is Methylprednisolone used for?

It is used to treat inflammatory or allergic conditions such as:

How are Methylprednisolone Tablets used?

This medication is intended to be taken orally. Methylprednisolone should be taken with food.

What dose should be given?

The usual dose for adults is 4-8mg, divided and given once or twice daily.

For the hospital treatment of acute asthma, the usual dose is 40-60mg, divided and taken once or twice per day.

The usual dose for children is 0.5-1.7mg/kg, divided and given every 6-12 hours. For the hospital treatment of acute asthma, the usual dose is 1-2mg/kg, divided and taken once or twice per day.

Side Effects

As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Methylprednisolone Tablets.

Serious side effects may include:

Precautions

  • You have a fungal infection.

Do not have a live viral vaccine while undergoing treatment with this drug.

Avoid sick people or those with infections like chicken pox or measles.

Before treatment, consult your doctor regarding any medications you are taking to address potential drug interactions.

This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:

  • thyroid disorders
  • ocular herpes infection
  • stomach ulcer
  • ulcerative colitis or diverticulitis
  • mental illness like depression or psychosis
  • liver disease, particularly cirrhosis
  • hypertension
  • osteoarthritis
  • muscle disorders like myasthenia gravis
  • multiple sclerosis
  • diabetes
