Indomethacin Tablets are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat moderate to severe pain and inflammation associated with some types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Indomethacin is also used to relieve shoulder pain caused by bursitis or tendinitis.
Indomethacin is an NSAID with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. The active ingredient is thought to work by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.

Uses
What is Indomethacin used for?
It is used to relieve moderate to severe pain, swelling, tenderness and stiffness that are caused by arthritis:
- osteoarthritis
- rheumatoid arthritis
- ankylosing spondylitis
- acute gouty arthritis
Indomethacin is also used to reduce shoulder pain associated with bursitis or tendinitis.
How should Indomethacin Tablets be used?
This medication is intended to be taken orally. Indomethacin Tablets should be taken with food.
What dose should be taken?
- For gout, the usual dose is 50mg, taken 3 times a day.
- For bursitis or tendinitis, the usual dose is 75-150mg, divided and taken 3-4 times per day. The duration of treatment is 1-2 weeks.
- For moderate to severe arthritis, the usual dose is 25mg, taken 2-3 times per day.
The dosage is based on medical condition, response to treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted side effects can occur from the use of Indomethacin Tablets.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- headache
