What is Indomethacin?
Active Ingredients: Indomethacin
Indomethacin Capsules are a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat moderate to severe pain and inflammation associated with some types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Indomethacin is also used to relieve shoulder pain caused by bursitis or tendinitis.
Indomethacin is an NSAID with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is thought to work by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.

Uses
What is Indomethacin used for?
It is used to relieve moderate to severe pain, swelling, tenderness, and stiffness that are caused by arthritis:
- osteoarthritis
- rheumatoid arthritis
- ankylosing spondylitis
- acute gouty arthritis
Indomethacin is also used to reduce shoulder pain associated with bursitis or tendinitis.
How should Indomethacin Capsules be used?
This medication is manufactured to be taken orally.
What dose should be taken?
- For acute gouty arthritis, the usual dose for adults is 50mg, taken 3 times per day.
- For shoulder conditions such as bursitis or tendinitis, the usual dose for adults is 75-150mg, divided into 3-4 doses per day.
- For mild to moderate pain, the usual dose for adults is 25-50mg, taken 2 to 3 times per day.
The exact dosage is dependent on medical condition, response to the treatment, age, and weight. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage and do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted side effects can occur from the use of Indomethacin Capsules.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- headache
- dizziness
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- constipation
- ringing in the ears
Seek medical attention if the following develop:
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- fever
- unusual swelling
- blisters, rash, itching, or hives
- excessive tiredness or lack of energy
- changes in urination
- changes in vision or hearing
- mood changes, such as confusion or hallucinations

Precautions
Do NOT use Indomethacin Capsules if:
- You are allergic to Indomethacin or any of the other ingredients.

- You have liver, kidney, or gastrointestinal problems.
- You are pregnant or may be pregnant.
