What is Ichthammol?
Active Ingredients: Ichthammol
Ichthammol Ointment is a topical medicine used to soothe skin irritations caused by insect bites or stings or plants like poison ivy. This ointment is also used to treat minor skin infections, like ingrown nails, or to treat boils and weepy, itchy skin associated with skin conditions like eczema.
Ichthammol can be used as a drawing salve to help remove splinters and slivers and treat other under-the-skin afflictions like ingrown hairs.
Ichthammol is a natural compound derived from coal tar. This ointment has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibiotic properties. Ichthammol is also called Ammonium bituminosulfonate.
