What is Famciclovir?

Therapeutic Class:

Active Ingredients: Famciclovir

Famciclovir Tablets are used to treat viral infections such as genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles. It may not be effective against an initial outbreak of herpes, but it may reduce the recurrence of additional outbreaks. Famciclovir is sometimes prescribed for herpes outbreaks in patients with HIV.

Famciclovir does not cure infection from the virus, nor does it prevent transmission.

Famciclovir is a guanine analog belonging to the class of medicines called antivirals. It works by stopping viral replication, which decreases the severity of symptoms and duration of illness.

Famciclovir is also known by the name of famciclovyr.
