What is Celecoxib?

Celecoxib Capsules are a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to temporarily relieve pain and inflammation caused by conditions like arthritis and menstrual pain. This medication is also indicated for juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children over 2 years old and hereditary polyps in the colon.
Celecoxib is classified as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It displays anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX).

Uses
What is Celecoxib used for?
It is used to treat pain and inflammation caused by certain types of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also used to treat acute pain episodes and dysmenorrhea.
How are Celecoxib Capsules used?
This medication is manufactured to be taken orally, if an upset stomach occurs, Celecoxib can be taken with food.
What dose should be taken?
For osteoarthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, the usual dose is 200mg taken once a day.
For rheumatoid arthritis, the usual dose is 100-200mg taken twice a day.
For acute pain episodes and dysmenorrhea, the usual dose is 200mg taken twice per day.
For juvenile idiopathic arthritis, the usual dosages for pediatric patients:
- over 2 years old or weighing more than 25kg: 100mg taken twice per day
- under 2 years old or weighing less than 25kg: 50mg taken twice per day
Always use the lowest effective dose and shortest duration. Refer to a doctor or pharmacist for more specific guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise.
Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Celecoxib Capsules.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- gastrointestinal disturbances
- swelling in the hands/feet
- cold-like symptoms
Stop treatment and consult a doctor if the following develop:
- skin rash (even mild rashes)
- signs of a heart problem
- signs of bleeding in the stomach
- signs of a liver or kidney problem
- anemia
Seek immediate medical attention if:
- signs of an allergic reaction or a severe skin reaction
- signs of a heart attack or stroke
- signs of a serious drug reaction

Precautions
Do NOT use Celecoxib Capsules if:
- You are allergic or hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.

- You have experienced hypersensitivity reactions (asthma attack, allergic reactions) with NSAID or aspirin.
This medication may not be suitable for people with certain conditions, including:
- ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines
- heart disease
- hypertension
- asthma
- liver or kidney disease
- tobacco or alcohol use
- bleeding problems
This medicine should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult a doctor or healthcare professional before treatment.
Many drugs are known to interact with Celecoxib, including antidepressants, steroids, or blood thinners. Concurrent treatment with certain medications may increase the risk of ulcers or stomach bleeding.
Avoid drinking alcohol during treatment with Celecoxib, as it may increase the risk of stomach bleeding.
Celecoxib 200mg: Why the most common dose?
Celecoxib 200mg is the most favorable dose for arthritis, offering substantial symptom relief while minimizing gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects. Lower doses, like Celecoxib 100mg, and higher doses, like Celecoxib 400mg, are used based on patient needs and response.
