Cefadroxil Capsules are an antibiotic drug used in the treatment of moderately severe bacterial infections such as streptococcal pharyngitis, streptococcal tonsillitis, and urinary tract infections. This medication is also indicated to be used as a prophylactic antibiotic before dental procedures.

This drug is also used to reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. Cefadroxil will not treat a viral infection such as the common cold or flu.

Cefadroxil is a broad-spectrum, semi-synthetic, beta-lactam antibiotic within the cephalosporin family. It works by inhibiting protein synthesis in the bacteria cell wall. An Overview of Results of World-Wide Clinical Trials with Cefadroxil

This research was focused on researching the efficacy of cefadroxil through worldwide clinical trials. It is known that this antibiotic is absorbed well and produces sustained serum levels, while it is eliminated at a slow rate. These are some pharmacokinetic properties that make this antibiotic very efficient.

This study included 1051 patients for evaluation of the drug’s safety and 1030 patients for evaluating the drug’s efficacy. The results showed that cefadroxil has a 91.8% rate of clinical success from 881 complete cures and 65 clinical cures. Cefadroxil showed 97.5% success in patients with respiratory tract infections and 84.5% success in patients with genito-urinary tract infections. Other infectious diseases had 99.0% clinical success due to the treatment with cefadroxil. Results also showed that this cephalosporin can eradicate 87% of 1110 pathogens isolated including Staphylococcus aureus, β-haemolytic streptococci, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Proteus mirabilis. There was only a 7.2% occurrence of side effects in the treated patients.
